Your Gestational Diabetes Nutrition Sessions - What to Expect
How to Use Your 3 RD Nutrition Sessions to Support Gestational Diabetes (GDM)
Feel steady. Feel equipped. Nourish your pregnancy with confidence.
Getting a gestational diabetes diagnosis can feel like a curveball—but you’re not in this alone. We’ll get you started on Chiyo’s Prenatal Nurture: Gestational Diabetes program, with meals designed to help you balance blood sugar, ease symptoms, and support a healthy pregnancy (and delivery). You can add on to the program, three sessions with your RD (Registered Dietitian) with one goal: personal, trimester-specific guidance to help you adjust along the way towards a healthy (and minimally restrictive) pregnancy.
Here’s what your three nutrition sessions look like—with a GD focus:

Session 1: Foundations + Your GDM Plan
The first step is clarity.
We start by understanding your body’s response to pregnancy and glucose changes. Your RD will review labs, symptoms, and daily rhythms—then craft a nutrition plan that’s tailored to you.
✨ What we’ll cover:
- Blood sugar goals and what they actually mean
- Dissecting the Chiyo meals & snacks and how they work to stabilize glucose
- Carb + protein pairings that support your energy
- Meal timing to support fasting glucose
- Prenatal supplement review (because they matter, too)
- Cravings, aversions, and food freedom within structure
💬 Patient Q: “I've been on the Chiyo prenatal program but am newly diagnosed with GD — can I still eat Chiyo meals?”
🩺 RD A: “Yes, let's switch you to Chiyo's GD program with more controlled ratios of protein, fiber, and net carbs. We’ll walk through your current timing and symptoms to test a few ways to find what feels best for your body.”
Session 2: Midpoint Strategy & Glucose Tweaks
By now, you’ve got the basics down—and your body’s shifting again.
This is when we zoom in: reviewing your logs, adjusting meals, and managing rising insulin resistance (especially in trimester 3).
🔍 What we’ll cover:
- Blood sugar trends (fasting, post-meal, bedtime)
- Dinner tweaks + evening snack strategies
- Digestive symptoms and how they impact glucose
- Gentle movement goals to smooth glucose curves
- Supplement or hydration shifts, if needed
- Building your microbiome for delivery
💬 Patient Q: “My post-dinner glucose is always higher than other meal times—why?”
🩺 RD A: “It could be timing, carbs, or stress. We’ll review your meals, consider an after-dinner walk, and see if a bedtime snack helps you reset overnight.”
Session 3: Graduation + Postpartum Planning
This is about what’s next—for you.
Your final session is celebration meets prep. We’ll reflect on what’s worked and plan for a strong, steady transition into postpartum.
🧡 What we’ll cover:
- Final-trimester adjustments (sleep, stress, snacks)
- Blood sugar support during recovery + feeding
- Postpartum meal templates: warm, soft, protein-rich
- Rebuilding your energy and metabolism after birth
- Postpartum labs and follow-up glucose test
- Support team referrals (lactation, pelvic floor, mental health)
💬 Patient Q: “Will my blood sugar go back to normal after birth?”
🩺 RD A: “Often, yes. But your body’s still recalibrating. I'll be here to help monitor and make adjustments to your postpartum plan that balances supporting glucose levels, hormones, lactation and healing—one meal (and one day) at a time.”
Why These 3 Sessions Matter
This isn’t just nutrition. It’s nervous-system care. It’s information turned into intuition.
With GDM, your needs shift—and your plan should too. These three sessions give you the support, strategy, and steadiness to care for yourself and your baby with clarity, calm, and compassion.
