Your Prenatal Nutrition Sessions - What to Expect

How to Use Your 3 RD Nutrition Sessions to Support a Healthy Prenatal Journey

Fuel your growing baby—and take care of yourself—every step of the way.

Pregnancy is full of change. Your body’s working overtime, your nutrient needs are rising, and your symptoms can shift by the week. We’ll get you started on Chiyo’s Prenatal program with meals designed to give your body exactly what it needs right now. Complementing the program, you’ll have three sessions with your RD (Registered Dietitian) with one goal: to offer you trimester-specific, deeply personalized care—whether you’re newly pregnant or nearing your due date.*

Here’s what to expect from each session—and how to make the most of them.

Your Prenatal Nutrition Sessions - What to Expect

Session 1: Prenatal Nutrition Foundations

We begin with the big picture. Your RD will take a full health history, walk through your current habits and symptoms, and design a nutrition plan that actually fits your life. We recommend starting your first session near the tail end of your first trimester (or when nausea subsides).

✨ What we’ll cover:

  • Prenatal lab review and digestion check-in
  • Your go-to meals, cravings, and aversions
  • Energy, sleep, stress, and movement patterns
  • Any supplements you're taking (especially your prenatal)
  • Hydration and meal timing by trimester
  • Strategies for steady blood sugar and micronutrient support

💬 Patient Q: “I can’t stomach veggies right now—am I missing key nutrients?”
🩺 RD A: “Totally normal. We’ll work with what you can tolerate. Smoothies, broths, and fortified grains can help fill the gaps. And we’ll adjust your prenatal timing so it’s easier on your system.”

Session 2: Trimester Transitions

By now, your appetite may be back—or your symptoms may have simply shifted. This is the moment to fine-tune your routine for energy, digestion, and nutrient absorption as baby (and your belly) grow.

🔍 What we’ll cover:

  • Iron, choline, omega-3s, and third-trimester nutrient needs
  • Heartburn, reflux, or constipation support
  • Optimizing meals to keep blood sugar and energy stable
  • Adjusting supplements for trimester 2–3
  • Gentle movement and microbiome-friendly foods
  • Preparing your body for labor and delivery

💬 Patient Q: “I’m in my third trimester and dealing with constant reflux.”
🩺 RD A: “You’re not alone. We’ll try smaller, more frequent meals, avoid known triggers, and support digestion with gentle herbs, cooked veggies, and a few smart swaps.”

Session 3: Preparing for Birth & Postpartum

This one’s a celebration—but it’s also key prep for what’s next. Your RD will help you reflect on what’s worked, and get you ready for the postpartum transition (hello, round-the-clock feeding and healing).

💜 What we’ll cover:

  • What’s worked best in your pregnancy nutrition
  • Last-trimester support for energy, sleep, and mood
  • Postpartum nourishment (the first 40 days matter)
  • Custom snack and meal plans for early recovery
  • Intro to Chiyo’s postpartum program—how it can carry you through
  • Resource referrals (lactation, pelvic floor, mental health)

💬 Patient Q: “I’m due soon—how should I plan for postpartum nutrition?”
🩺 RD A: “Focus on warm, soft, easy-to-digest meals with protein, iron, and anti-inflammatory nutrients—like stews, oats, and slow-cooked meats. We’ll map out go-to snacks, hydration, and support systems for the weeks ahead.”
